Wildfile...

Incorporating the Unofficial Wildlife Trusts

We are an independent website that aims to help internet users to reach information on UK wildlife and other environmental themes. We particularly want to help voluntary and individual sites to gain an internet presence.

About us...
We began our existence as The Unofficial Wildlife Trusts. However as we put up ever more links unconnected with the Wildlife Trusts, we came to need a new, distinctive identity which better reflected what we do. Hence our new name... wildfile.co.uk.

However we remain committed to our former role, by providing a section of links through to Wildlife Trusts and other WT-related sites, including links to unofficial web-sites relating to nature sites and reserves that have been put up by wildlife enthusiasts, reserve wardens, volunteers and campaigners.

Please feel free to submit links to sites that you just think we ought to include, not just ones that you run yourself.

Oliver Tickell.

The Manuka Club

The British countryside is increasingly under threat. New roads, housing and airports are eroding our open spaces, blurring the line between where suburbia ends and countryside begins. Although no-one has ever sat down and signed off the wholesale destruction of the countryside, the insidious creep of concrete and bricks - an out-of-town retail park here, another ring road there - is adding up to the same effect.

Disappearing woods and fields take with them values that people of all generations hold dear - a sense of tranquillity, of escape, and of closeness to nature. Some of these same people have taken it upon themselves to fight the advancing concrete. The work of these local heroes goes unsung, and is often under-funded. The Manuka Club exists to support them and to secure a living and healthy countryside for the enjoyment of everyone.
